Powder Coating Wheels Cost

What is the average cost of powder coating a set of 18" wheels?
I just bought a nice set of used CX-7 wheels for cheap and now I gotta decide if I want to leave them silver or change to another color. My 3 is CWP and I am not sure that white powder coat would match.

In the Denver area, I've had quotes anywhere from $60 a wheel to $125 a wheel. I would ask a few questions on how hot and how long they powdercoat the wheels. There is a lot of controversy on powdercoating processes weakening the aluminum/alloys in the wheel, if done wrong. Some research should be done IMHO.

Average is $100/ wheel. Your best bet is to haggle with local shops.

I originally wanted to buy a set of wheels that came powder coated or were coated in Teflon. But, 4WP has a killer deal on Pro Comp Forged wheels. If I were going to buy a set of them I would save 400 bucks and use that to powder coat them. So how much would it cost to get a set of wheels powder coated?

I had 4 steel wheels powdercoated for my Road Runner at Stockton Wheel in California. They charged me $45 a wheel in 20 degree black. Hope this helps.

I'm seriously considering powder coating a set of Kosie K-1 TS wheels in white.
A local powder coating company said $40.00 per wheel and even though they are new unused wheels, due to the fact they are painted wheels (I'm guessing),they would probably have to be sand blasted first at $45.00 per hour, estimated 2.5 hours to blast 4 wheels. That works out to $45.62 per wheel. Do you think this is a good price? I'm not afraid to try to negotiate a better price but, if it is a fair price going in, I don't want to insult the company.

I think that is fair. I work in manufacturing and thus I would say that is not too much.

Thinking about getting my wheels powder coated from a local vendor. What's a good price point to insure I don't get ripped off?

I think i've heard as low as $75 each and up to $125

I was quoted 90/wheel once. Problem is the bearings have to come out which you need a press for. Plus you're gonna need new bearings since at least one has to be trashed to get them out. Painting is a lot easier.

See if you can get him to lower the price if you agree to get more than just the wheels done.....

Cycle wheels are usually about $75 to $80 ea for stripping/blasting and a single-stage powder.
Going to a 2-stage powder (metallic with clear usually) adds 50% to the cost.
Special 2-tone work that requires additional masking would be more.
Generally - metallics need a clearcoat and Epoxy isn't good for anything that is used or stored outside.

I did the stripping myself, had them powder coated black and clear coated=$200 for the set.
